Jets edge out Wales U19 in exciting encounter

South Wales Jets’ men’s side were given a big test by the Wales U19s side, but we eventually came out 30-20 winners.

It was an exciting match, watched by a large crowd, as we were pleased to help Wales U19 who are preparing for the European Championships.

From minute one, the attitude, effort and physicality were outstanding. Every player who pulled on a Jets shirt today played their part and worked tirelessly for one another. It was a real team performance and one the whole club can be proud of.

Wales U19 took the lead on seven minutes thanks to an Ethan Williams try that Kyson Rees converted.

But from the first set after we regained the ball, we levelled the score. Jack Hodder scoring the try and Jamie Marsh converting.

Ieuan Sims soon dived over for our second try with Marsh again adding the goal to give us a 12-6 lead.

Alex Richardson hit back for Wales U19 with an unconverted try on 26 minutes, but not long before the break, Hodder went over for his second try, with Aaron Harrison kicking the goal to put the score onto 18-10 at half-time.

Wales U19 came out of the traps well in the second half and were 20-16 up on the hour. Harley Smith scored early on, with Rees converting, before Williams scored his second try.

But Jets finished the game well with Shane Lee and Craig Lewis each scoring tries and Harrison converting both.

As we couldn’t pick between our players, today’s Player of the Match was selected by the Wales U19s main sponsor. Shane Lee was their choice after an outstanding performance and a huge shift from start to finish. A well-deserved award.

A massive thank you to our match sponsor Auto Fit Garage Services and Andrew Stevens for your continued support of the club. Your backing helps make days like today possible and allows the club to continue growing both on and off the field.

We’d also like to thank Wales U19s, their staff, players and supporters for a competitive and well-contested fixture played in the right spirit.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along to support the lads. The noise and support from the sidelines means a lot to the team.

A strong performance, a great result, and plenty to build on.
