There’s a big day at Penallta RFC tomorrow (Saturday) as South Wales Jets open the JES Rugby League Conference with a home match against Bridgend Blue Bulls (kick-off 2.30pm).
It’s a perfect fixture to start the first day of the rebranded competition. The Jets are last year’s champions and Bridgend are the best side in the league’s history having won 10 out of the first 20 tournaments.
It’s going to be a fantastic day of rugby league, and it all starts at noon when our U13 sides from the two clubs do battle.
Marcus Webb, Henry Parker, David Hooper, Cobi Green, Shaun Morgan, Luke Purnell, Jake Lee, Lewis Hughes, Aaron Lloyd and Jacob Purcell are all players who could make their first full 13-a-side competitive appearances for the Jets after being named in the 20-man squad by head coach Ben Flower.
Webb and Green have played professional rugby league in the past, with Webb last making a first-class appearance in 2021 with West Wales Raiders. He’s also turned out for South Wales Scorpions, Hunslet and Swinton Lions in the past with 40 professional appearances and 15 tries in RFL leagues.
Green isn’t far behind Webb in professional appearances, making 34 in total, scoring nine tries, playing for South Wales Scorpions, Coventry Bears, Bradford Bulls, Swinton Lions and Rochdale Hornets. He also played for Wales in the World Cup 9s in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
Sunday sees a feast of junior activity from 8s-12s. We travel to Aber Valley Wolves at U9 and U10 and host them at U8. We also have home games against Bridgend on Sunday at U11 and U12 levels.
Entry for adults is just £5, free for U16s. Both 13s and seniors will be streamed on the VEO live app. Please download the Veo app, follow the South Wales Jets club and the stream will appear before kick-off.
