South Wales Jets opened their defence of their JES Group Rugby League Conference with a 44-10 win over Bridgend Blue Bulls.
With over 200 packed inside Penallta, members of the Jets’ many junior sides made a guard of honour for their men’s players to come onto the field, and the seniors didn’t let them down.
Marcus Webb, who last played professionally with West Wales Raiders, after spells with Hunslet and Swinton, was dominant, scoring four tries, with his second, that came on 13 minutes, a darting run as he dodged past all comers. The first was converted by Chris Harris, who landed just three out of eight kicks through the game.
Dylan Rees-Davies struck back for Bridgend on 19 minutes, with Corey Harris converting, to put the score onto 10-6, but that was as close as the Bulls got. Tries from Craig Lewis, Webb and Chris Harris gave Jets a 22-6 half-time lead.
Webb’s fourth try came on 47 minutes with Dean Higgs converting, and tries from Cobi Green (former Rochdale Hornets), Lewys Willacott and Higgs soon followed as Jets went into a 44-6 lead.
The final say went to Bridgend’s Ieuan Ace who scored right on the full-time whistle.
